FINAL DAY ! Saturday 29 August 2009
And the winners are :
Thomas Pieters from Belgium and Marianna Causin from Italy
At the turn, it looked as if it was a lost case for Thomas: with 5 bogeys and one double bogey, he was 7 over par for the day whilst his direct opponent, Dylan, was playing very consistently: one under for the first nine, 3 under for the tournament and a 4 strokes lead on Thomas.
But the young Belgian suddenly found a new inspiration and with 3 birdies on the next 4 holes when Dylan was playing 2 over, Thomas did reverse the situation unexpectedely. He kept playing steadily, coming back in 33, 3 under ensuring a win by 2 strokes on Dylan.
By the girl, Kelsey played the first three holes with authority : birdie, par, birdie and she was already in the lead. But a bogey followed by a double bogey on the 6th and the confidence was back in the camp of Marianna who was out in 35, one under par and again with a lead of 3 strokes on Kelsey.
Kelsey missed an opportunity to regain one stroke at the tenth and looked again in a better position on the 11th : 2 in the bunker whilst Marianna was only in 3 shots on the fringe of the green. Then suddenly everything went wrong: the bunker shot was taken clean and finished on the new course 30 meters further ! Back into the bunker, still in the bunker with the next shot, then just out in the bunker face to finish with an eight: the dream was over for Kelsey and Marianna could afford to play conservatively up to the end, finishing the Tournament at 2 over par 6 strokes ahead of … Nerea Salaverria. The young Spaniard played indeed beautifully all day, finishing even par on the last nine and, thanks to this, overtook Kelsey by one stroke.
For the Tournament of Nations:
After the withdrawal of one of the Belgian boys, it looked as if Netherlands would have an easy day for victory. This was without counting with the tenacity of the Italian boys, Alessandro Grammatica and Stefano Pitoni, who recovered 8 strokes on the Dutch boys and threatened the Dutch team quite closely. But not close enough: the Dutch boys, Dylan Boshart and Martijn Vermei, were able to keep a 5 strokes lead and win the Nations Cup.
By the girls, the game was almost over after the third round and nobody saw how the Italian girls could lose their supremacy !
They had a 23 strokes lead on their direct opponents, the Irish girls, and this difference could not be filled in one round. Both team returned a 151 so the Italian Girls, Laura Seda and Marianna Causin kept the leadership on the Irish “Louises”: Louise Mernagh and Louise Coffey.

Day Three Friday 28 August 2009

At the turn today we would have thought, Kelsey Mc Donald was building up a comfortable lead: she was 2 under for the day, and one under for the tournament whilst her direct opponent, Marianna Causin was 3 over for the day after having bogeyed 4th and 9th and double-bogeyed the 5th!
However things changed suddenly on the back nine. The wind was blowing very strongly and with violent gusts making putting even more difficult than driving, especially on the slippery surfaces of the greens which had been measured in the morning between 3.30 m and 3.80 m.
Kelsey played 2 over on the back nine but Marianna played 3 under restoring a one stroke lead on Kelsey. We have to look 5 strokes behind to find the third player, Isabel Gadea from Germany who returned a 74 today.
The good surprise for Belgium came from young Camille Richelle (15 years of age) who scored also a 72 even par and is now pointing at the 10th place.
But there was another good surprise to come for Belgium in the person of Thomas Pieters. A moment destabilised when he lost for strokes between 8 and 10 with two three putts, he finished strongly with birdies at the 12, 13, 14, 16 and 18. Thomas is now at 5 under and counts a 3 strokes lead on the Dutch boy Dylan Boshart who had a poor day today: 4 bogeys one double bogey and only one single birdie for a 76.
Finally, the cherry on top of the cake was brought by the local player, Steven De Wispelaere, who returned a 69 three under par finishing with an eagle 2 at 18 and is now showing at the fourth place, 6 strokes behind his friend Thomas.
Let’s though keep a eye on Martin Prihoda from Czechia who played very consistently 73, 72, 71 and could create a surprise tomorrow.
In the Tournament of Nations, we don’t really see how the Italian girls could be beaten as they have a 19 strokes lead on Scotland. By the Boys, Netherlands is leading on Belgium by 6 points but one of the Belgian players, Christopher Mivis, had to resign late in the evening as he had injured a wrist. Netherlands has therefore 12 strokes lead on … Italy which will also be difficult to beat.
Tomorrow, the best girls will start from 12:00 to 12:30 and will be immediately followed by the 12 best boys. Last start at 13:20 and forecast for the Prize giving is 18:30.

Day Two Thursday 27 August 2009

With 71, Kelsey Mc Donald shot the best score of the day and is now pointing at the second place, just one stroke behind Marianna Causin. Kelsey played very consistently: 4 birdies, out in 35, back in 36.

Marianna had a difficult first nine with 39 but recovered her nerves and came back in 36 for a 74, keeping the lead by one stroke. Italy is putting a maximum of pressure as another of their girl, Chiara Brizziolari, shot a 73 and is now sharing the 3rd place together with Isabel Gadea who returned a disappointing 79 after her 69 of yesterday. They are both at 148, 4 strokes behind the leader.
The Belgian Fanny Knops played a bit weaker today (77) but is still tying with another Italian girl, Laura Sedda at the 5th place

Today’s best scores among the boys were produced by Thomas Pieters from Belgium and Alessandro Grammatica (from Italy again): they both shot 67, both out in 33 and back in 34.
Young Dylan Boshart from Netherlands is nevertheless keeping a one stroke lead on Thomas Pieters. He shot a 71 today despite a triple bogey at 17th. This hole proved even more difficult for some others as the Frenchman Benjamin Ducros, who was at that moment one under for the day, scored a 12 there: 6 shots for the green (with a lost ball) and 6 putts !
Young Dewi Merckx from Belgium was another unlucky player of the day: at the turn he was indeed leading with 8 under but 3 bogeys in a raw on the back nine followed by a quadruple bogey on the 15th ruined his hopes of becoming the overnight leader after 2 rounds. He is nevertheless still sharing the third place in good company as the other boy at one under is nobody else than the Danish Joachim Brandt Hansen, the winner of last year.

Short interview of the 3 best girls of day one Thursday 27 August 2009
1. Isabel GADEA (GERMANY) : 69

a. How old are you? 15
b. Is it the first time that you play under par in an international tournament? Yes, I played once 4 under but it was not during an international tournament.
c. How many putts did you take? 26
d. How many greens did you hit in regulation? 12
e. Which hole is your favorite? 16, short par 4.
f. Did you repair each pitch mark you made? Yes. When I was younger, if I didn’t, I had to pay 1€ to my coach.
The drive of Isabel at the first hole was in the center of the fairway. Her coach is the same as Martin Kaymer’s coach so maybe this can help understanding why she played that good. Isabel had no caddy because she doesn’t want to. And to finish, she ate bread and drank orange juice at breakfast
2. Marianna CAUSIN (ITALY): 70

a. How old are you? 20 years old.
b. Is it the first time that you play under par in an international tournament ? No, I played under the par two weeks ago during the International of Switzerland.
c. How many putts did you take? 28
d. How many greens did you hit in regulation? 11
Birdie at the 2-6-8-12-16.
e. Which hole is your favorite? 11 because of the trees. It’s a complicated and tactical hole.
Marianna had some bread with marmalade for breakfast. She drank a cup of tea. She was not very well prepared at the first tee because woods are forbidden on the practice range. But because she’s not a nervous person, she could hit her first drive in the center.
3. Fanny CNOPS (BELGIUM): 72

a. How old are you? 18 years old
b. How many putts did you take? 28
c. How many greens did you hit in regulation? 9
d. Which hole is your favorite? 1 and 13 because they are par 5. At the first hole, I did an eagle. I played a drive followed by a 9 iron 3 meters of the pin.
e. Which part of your game was the best today? The putting, I don’t putt that good usually.
Fanny had a good feeling at the first tee this morning, that’s why she hit the center of the fairway too. She was relaxed because she ate Special K with milk. She stays in a host family with three other players: The LOGE family.
Day One Wednesday 26 August 2009

Isabel Gadea from Germany is leading the field with a 69, 3 under par. She went out in 33, with birdies at the 1st, the 7th and the 9th, made 2 bogeys on the back nine but finished strongly with 2 birdies at 17th and 18th. !

She is followed at one stroke by the Italian Girl Marianna Causin who shot 70.
The good surprise for Belgium came from the two young girls of Latem, Fanny Knops who scored a 72 even par and Camille Richelle who finished with a 73.

Many boys were out under par but encountered some problems on the back nine as they were too easily tempted to go for the green with the driver on the short par 4’s which proved a bit risky for someones. Only a few players were able to keep or improve their scores on the back nine.

The most successful among them was Dylan Boshart from Netherlands: out in 35, back in 32 for an impressive 67: 5 birdies and not a single bogey.

Young Belgian Dewi Merckx came back with a 68 (6 birdies and two bogeys) together with the Irish boy James Monaghan who had not less than 8 birdies but also a couple of miseries …

Three strokes behind, we find two players at 71: Christofer Liedtke from Germany and Scot Gibson from Scotland.

TOTAL Am-am Tuesday 25 August 2009
The Am-am competition was played on Monday under a glorious sun. As the course is very dry, many players were surprised by the runs and bounces on the fairways with many balls ending in the bushes or the thick rough.
No wonder then if the best gross score, 138, 6 under, was returned by the team under the leading of Joachim Brandt Hansen who is nobody else than the winner of the International Juniors 2008 ! But in a team, you are never alone and his Danish partner Victor Osterby did his share of the job. But the two “true” amateurs Pierre Vierendeels and Marc-Henri Decrop did even more than their share, considering they improved the scores of the two champions by 4 strokes although they were both handicap … 20 ! It should also be spotted that Pierre Vierendeels scored an eagle 2 at the 16th hole !!!

The winners with their prize

The most disappointed were surely the players from the team composed of the Portuguese boys and youngsters from Ravenstein, Miguel Gaspar, Tomas Silva, Hadrien van Doosselaere and Thomas de Spirlet as they had the same score of 138 but were beaten on the back nine (71 against 67 for the other team).
In net, the first place came to the team composed of Pascal Lizin and Olivier del Marmol, together with the Irish girls, Louis Mernagh and Louise Coffey with the score of 131, 13 under par.

The winning nett team !
For the second place, there were 4 teams with a score of 133 so we had to look at the back nine once again. The best 133 was produced by the team of Jaime Jiminez, Didier Malherbe and the Italian boys, Stefano Piton and Valentino Dall’Arche.
the winners of ... the second place !
Finally the third place went to Mrs Allan Peacock, Alessandro Riccardi, Tessa De Bruijn (NL) and Damien Flachaire (MC). Unfortunately for them, the picture was mistaken ...

Drivers gossips Tuesday 25 August 2009
Once upon a time… there was a (hot) drivers team... Everyday we are happy to drive you around. But the first thing you should know about us is that we are not professionals. Only volunteers (who begin at 6 in the morning!!!). Anyways, while driving we can only be charmed by the passengers and that’s why there are some gossips :
Italy : Most luggage Spain: Most talkative people. Columbia: The man who spent the most time at the airport instead of on the course. Switzerland : Happiest and strangest people. Germany : Less seen for the moment. Denmark: Fire hair team. Madrid : Most lost golf bags. We are looking forward to gossiping about the other countries as soon as possible…
Don’t forget to be on time for the shuttles because we won’t be allowed to wait for you. And we’ll try to do our best to be on time, but if we are not, don’t worry, we don’t know speed limits…
What about the weather ? yesterday was very hot (30°C) and during the evening appeared a beautiful rainbow on the course. But last night … you probably were woken up because of the Belgian national rain, you’ll have to get used to it if you want to win!
It would be very nice, if you didn’t forget to greet the big boss, Anne, the mother of the tournament (that could be useful if you need her…).
We’d like to remind all players that we’re open to all propositions and requests (also for the party).
PS : Be nice with Eliott, the little boy who drives the golf cars (he’s a future member of the drivers team).

The drivers team

Send a mail to anne.marien@sij.be
Pre-selection Tuesday 11 August 2009
To all players,
Registration is closed now and we have, as usual, too many participants.
As usual also, we have therefore asked to all Federations to make their own selection in order to stick to the maximum of 16 players per country.
This explains why, to our deepest regret, only 16 German players have been retained on the 28 who had registered legitimately. Many Spanish, French and Belgian players have not been retained either in order to keep the maximum of 144 players for the field.
Entry Form Wednesday 05 August 2009
Dear players,
The entryform is again avalaible on the website.
The Staff Registration until the 10th August Tuesday 04 August 2009

Due to a technical problem, it isn't possible anymore to download the entryform on the website.
It will be arranged for tomorrow. Meanwhile, you can send us your registration by e-mail giving the necessary information (Surname, name, hcp, birthday, golfclub).
We apologize for the inconvenience.
The Staff About registrations Monday 22 June 2009
Registrations to the TOTAL International Juniors of Belgium are now open.
In 2009, the event will be played again in 4 rounds stroke play with a cut after 54 holes.
In order to ensure a smooth development of the championship, we do not accept more than 144 players overall and we will limit the number of players to 8 boys and 4 girls per country.
In consequence the registrations have to run through the Federation of each country.
Thursday 11 June 2009
Day - 74
After a long sleep, our site jumps back to life.
This year, the International Juniors Championship will be held between 26 and 29 August.
And we have a new sponsor : TOTAL, one of the world leaders in oil, gas and chemicals, will support our Tournament for the whole week. Thanks to them we will again organise an Am-am competition which will be played on Monday 24 August.
Next week, the invitations will be sent to the various Golf Federations.
Our hostesses, drivers and recording teams are hankering to see all of you back for a super golfing week.
