NICOLAS COLSAERT (Bel)
The International Juniors represented for us the last important summer season rendezvous before the start of the new school year in September. This international tournament was a feast for the eyes as far as the setting with the flags of the participating nations, the score board, the mixed boys and girls delegations, the Nations Tournament, the longest drives, and the match play board were concerned. Among my sporting memories, beyond my qualification victory in 1999 with a course record smashed with 65 or even the semi-finals lost in 2000 whereas Graeme McDowell lost the other semi-finals, I rather remember the 1997 Cup of Nations victory when I was 14 years old.
I was chosen, together with Jerome Theunis, my childhood friend, to represent Belgium. I played before Jerome and he had started off with 2-3-3, eagle, birdie, par! In spite of Jerome ’s 3 putts on the last hole we were leading and we both remember it fondly!
